Thanatology: End of Life, Death and Dying

Thanatology: End of Life, Death and Dying

(4 hours  $75  pre-recorded webinar)

Our population is aging, and whether we are ready for it or not, death is going to be a more common experience in our personal and professional lives. Between 2012 and 2050, the estimated over-65 population is expected to DOUBLE, increasing to over 83 million seniors. The “Silver Tsunami” will bring unique opportunities for us to work with end of life circumstances for our clients and our families.

When a terminal diagnosis of metastatic cancer has been given, research shows us that clear communication about end of life with the physician happens for less than one fifth of patients. Clients are fearful, often in denial, and unfamiliar with palliative care concepts and end of life planning.

As adjunct practitioners in terminal cases, we have an opportunity to support the client with caring conversations to clarify their wishes, and put into place advance care planning.  Karen Allen will present concepts homeopaths need to know about end of life, including case management, counseling and reference resources. Whether you take this course to support your clients, or to be informed so that you can help your own family and community, the information is valuable, practical and necessary for all of us.
